Assumed Name Certificates

For state DBA filings (LLCs and Corporations must file with the state), we can e-sign for you, which means your state DBA will be filed within 1 business day of receipt of your order.

For county DBA filings (unincorporated businesses like sole proprietorships file DBAs at the county level), we will send the Assumed Name Certificate to you via email and then record in the county clerk's office upon receipt of your notarized signature. It normally takes about 10 business days to get the recorded DBA back from the county.  Some counties (Brazoria, Dallas, Eastland, Fort Bend, Hays, Liberty, Medina, Parker, Potter, Randall, Smith, Starr, Victoria, and Webb) allow us to e-record which speeds up our turnaround times (reduces the 10 day turn around time for recording to 1 business day from the date we receive the signed/notarized DBA from you).

Incorporated Business (LLC or Corp): A DBA for an incorporated business like an LLC or Corporation must be filed with the Texas Secretary of State.

Unincorporated Business (sole proprietor or general partnership): An unincorporated business does NOT have to file with the state, but rather with EACH county in which the business: (1) has or will maintain a business premises; or (2) conducts business or renders a professional service (if the person does not maintain a business premises in any county).

Proper Usage:

• John Doe doing business as The Paper Doctor
• Superior Enterprises, LLC doing business as Superior Property Management
• English Students of America, LLC  doing business as ESA

Improper Usage:

• John Doe, Jr. doing business as John Doe
• Property Experts doing business as John Doe
• ABC, LLC doing business as ABC, LLC

Yes, a change in the registrant’s name, address, or business structure would be considered a material change. If a material change has been made, a new assumed name certificate must be filed within 60 days.
